Friday night dinner Make Your Own Shabbat
Over 135 people attended the pilot "Make Your Own Shabbat"! Guests included Israeli students, soldiers, and young professionals, Olim living in Israel for a year or two and olim who arrived just two days earlier on the Nefesh b'Nefesh flight, tourists visiting from across the globe who saw posters hanging on the street, recent Birthright Israel participants extending their trip, Presentense and ROI fellows, and Pardes and Hebrew University students.
The dinner was held at the newly renovated Jerusalem Community Center - Beit Yehudit! We were encouraged to meet new people and strengthen our ties with Jerusalem. Volunteers led a large group ice breaker, board games were placed on tables througout the room, and Livnot songbooks kept everyone on the 'same page' throughout the evening! Following a delicious meal catered by Mervad Haksamim and wine donated by Tishbi Winery, we were invited to stick around and mingle for an Oneg Shabbat!
On Shabbat day our Make Your Own Shabbat map brought us to local synagogues, yoga and meditation in a park, and a fascinating historical walking tour the Jerusalem neighborhood, Rehavia.
